Overview
TechSmith releases major versions of Snagit, Camtasia, and Audiate in the fall of each year. The types of changes we will reserve for major versions may include:
- Dropping operating system version compatibility
- Removing or retiring major features
- Breaking backward compatibility
Starting with 2025 versions, TechSmith products will install the latest version and replace any older subscription version installed, to keep our customers on the latest versions of our products. (Camtasia Windows will be a bit delayed with this functionality.)
Snagit and Camtasia
Starting with version 2025, Snagit and Camtasia are released in a subscription model. Customers with a current subscription will be able to choose to update to the latest version at any time. Software users will be prompted in-product to update when a new version of Snagit or Camtasia is available.
TechSmith does not require users to be on the latest version. As part of their subscription, users can be on any supported release. If the new version is not compatible with a user’s operating system, the user can continue to use the old version. TechSmith will continue to release security updates for previous versions following the Previous Versions Release Policy below.
Your organizational settings may limit update functionality. Please contact your system administrator if you have questions. Organizations can control whether update prompts are turned off for their deployments.
Audiate
Audiate requires users to be on the latest software version, and it will automatically update when it is opened.
Previous Versions Release Policy
For Snagit and Camtasia, TechSmith will continue to provide security updates and major bug fixes to the most recent previous version of the software. Please see the chart below for details.
