Offloading Snagit

If you need to cancel your subscription or your company cancelled it for you and you'll no longer have access to Snagit, it's a good idea to offload your images in a readable format like JPG or PNG from Snagit. If you leave your captures in the .snagx or .snag format, they won't be able to be opened by other programs in the case that you need them in the future.

Here's how to offload your captures from Snagit:

  1. Batch convert your images from .snagx to another format by following the steps in this article: https://www.techsmith.com/learn/tutorials/snagit/batch-convert-images/
  2. For your videos made in Snagit, these are already in MP4 format, which can be read by other applications. It may be a good idea to move them to a new folder where you'll know they are:
    • Navigate on your Mac or PC to your Snagit Library folder. If you're not sure where that folder is, open the Snagit editor and:
      • on Windows, click Edit > Editor Preferences > Library tab

      • on Mac, choose Snagit dropdown menu on your menu bar > Settings (or Preferences on older macOS) > Library tab

    • These settings will show where your Snagit library is saved. You can then navigate there in File Explorer (on Windows) or Finder (on Mac) and locate your MP4 video files from Snagit
  3. Once you're done exporting your captures and moving your MP4 files, you can uninstall Snagit or have your IT team do it for you. If prompted, choose "Delete User Data" to fully uninstall (unless you plan to see us again soon!)
